Frequently Asked Questions

What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides non-medical physical, emotional, and informational support to families after the birth of a baby. My role is to nurture and care for the whole family -especially the birthing parent – so that you can rest, recover, and bond with your baby in a supported and confident way.

How is a postpartum doula different from a babysitter or night nurse?

While a babysitter focuses on childcare and night nurses often care exclusively for the baby, a postpartum doula supports the entire family. I offer guidance on newborn care, emotional support, help with light household tasks, and most importantly nurturing care for the birthing parent as you heal and adjust.

What kind of support do you offer?

I offer a tailored support to you and your family which may include:
• Emotional support and compassionate presence
• Assistance with newborn care (feeding, soothing, sleep basics)
• Guidance with postpartum recovery and self-care
• Help with light household tasks and meal prep
• Support for older siblings and partners
• Evidence based information and a listening ear

When should I book a postpartum doula?

It’s ideal to book during pregnancy to ensure availability and plan ahead for your support needs. However, in a lot of cases people don’ t realise they need support until baby has arrived, please reach out no matter what stage you are at, I will always do my best to accommodate you.

Do you offer overnight care?

Unfortunately, I cannot offer overnight care at the moment but hope to in the future

How long do you work with families?

I offer flexible care ranging from a few visits to several weeks or months, depending on your needs. Some families want support during the first few intense weeks, while others benefit from longer-term care as they settle into their new rhythm.

Are you certified?

Yes. I am a trained and certified postpartum doula through DoulaCare Ireland and a member of the Doula Association of Ireland I continuously update my education to offer the best evidence-based, compassionate care.
I have been Garda Vetted and hold Paediatric First Aid and Child First Certification

Do you work with all types of families?

Absolutely. I welcome and affirm all kinds of families—regardless of structure, culture, orientation, or birth experience. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, respected, and cared for.

How much do you charge?

My fee is €30/hr. I also have packages available when you book in 3 sessions or more.

Can I claim back a contribution towards doula support on my health insurance?

Irish Life Health members can claim back a contribution towards post-natal supporters when the Doula is a member of the Doula Association of Ireland. Keep your receipts and send them in to Irish Life Health within 12 months from the date on which your baby was born to claim for this benefit.
